On the verge of picking up my first CJ, but not really sure if it's worth it. I'm a musclecar guy, and yes I do all my own reato work (paint, body, weld, mechanical, etc) so projects do not scare me. I am just unfamiliar with what is or isn't available for Jeeps, so bear with me.

Found an 82 CJ7 , AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l auto, hardtop and doors. Owner can't get it running number one. Says last time it was driven was about a year ago. Other bigger issue is the body mounts rusted through (on the tub, frame is fine) and is so bad the body itself it sitting kinda goofy, causing the doors not to line up. I'll say the price is in the 5-700 range, so thought picking it up would be a pretty good deal. Of course I hope the experts can make a better determination for me. any advice is appreciated. thanks.

Sounds like nothing you can't handle yourself. Tons of aftermarket parts available. $700 dosen't sound bad. I got my 78 cj for free from a friend, 15k later , nice friend!

In my opinoin thats one of the best years you can get. Bought my 85 CJ7 for $600 and you have the advantage of being able to weld. Id grab it. Of course I'll grab anything.

And how did you like that game Sunday???

I'm no expert.... But buy it. I had a 79 was stupid and sold it. Been 10 yrs did some swapping and got an 80 CJ5 just to fill that void. Had it for a month and bought an 82 CJ7 ... Wouldn't trade the world for it. 1st yr of wide axles... And if it's like mine it's non computer... And once ya get it going ya sell any muscle cars ya got... I have 63 swb Chevy sitting in the shop right now, debating on selling because I have no interest at all in it anymore. Jeeps is the only way to go!

Buy it, slap a fiberglass tub on it, then throw a V-8 of your choice into it and enjoy the ever living h3ll out of it :D!!

Seriously though Jeeps are a lot of fun to drive (especially CJ's due to there sheer simplicity) I've had plenty of Jeeps, lifted trucks, lowered trucks, fast cars, and slow cars, but I always managed to go back to my CJ. They are just awesome.
