I use some old oil off the dip stick and smear it on the inside of the grommet so the PCV valve will slide in better once the valve sticks to the rubber its a bear to to get it to slide :chug: Does the new PCV match the old one you took off?

It goes through the grommet fine. There is a baffle inside the valve cover and under the PCV valve hole. The PCV valve hits the baffle after going about 1/4" into the grommet. Then you cannot push it in any further.

Is it possible that you could bend down that baffle to allow more clearance for the valve? It sounds like you have a lot of internal pressure from a worn engine. Some guys install breather caps on another outlet hole to help relieve that.

Can't bend down the breather because the valve cover is plastic. I could drill a hole through the baffle so that the neck of the pcv valve could pass through it, and then it could seat into the grommet at the neck's ridge, creating a better seal. As long as it cleared all moving parts underneath. I am not a mechanic, so is it OK for opening of the valve to be unprotected by the baffle?

Prolly not a good idea to drill for the very reason you state.
after looking at photo in you original post, is that the factory valve cover? If not that may explain why the parts book part won't fit

You definitely dont want to get rid of the baffle it keeps oil from being splashed up into the PCV valve and then being consumed in the combustion chamber You can see if you can move it down though :chug:

So, then another option would be to shorten the length of the pcv valve. Just short enough to fit correctly and clear that plastic baffle. That hard plastic can easily break if you drill through it.

I think you nailed the fix right there. The neck of the valve that's striking the baffle is actually a nipple on the bottom of the valve. Well, I'm not going into another hose on the bottom side with it, I'm going straight into the valve cover. I'm just going to take a fine tooth hack saw and carefully cut the nipple off the valve. Then it should seat properly into the grommet and stay put. Thanks for the feedback.
