I've been fighting wiper issues for years, even through 2 crown windshield frames. Right now they work but the motor eventually binds up and will self-recover after 20 mins of continuous use or so.

My thought at this point is to go to a YJ linkage with the CJ motor. How bad is enlarging the pivots? Will this fix the issue? This windshield frame is not bent/oilcanned.

the problem is your windshield frame. i had one of those trash Chinese frames and my wipers were always binding. i eventually bent the frame where the driver's side post comes through and it worked fine after that until I was able to track down a factory CJ frame.

on a side note for my wife's CJ im going to use a YJ frame and wiper set up so it has the delay feature

considering i have a bad habit of bouncing windshield frames off of trees, i don't want to put a fiberglass or an OEM one on as it'll likely get messed up in the future.

get two then. one Chinese cheap-o with plexiglass window for wheeling and a good oem for when ur not wheeling and just change em out

Or go with the steel cable guide wires from the front of the fenders and windshield guard

I'm pretty sure Barney's Jeep parts sells a heim joint linkage for wipers. I have a kit for my '76, but I haven't had the time to install yet. I just forget where I got it from.

I just installed that yesterday, lets see how it does, looks promising so far with no binding thus far.

After careful inspection i'm seeing that the stock or even the replacement linkages were too long and that was causing the issue.

Made mine using heim joints, allthread and some steel brake tubing. Also used a wiper motor from my late 80's, believe it was a 89 Caravan, they're small, also mounted in a fiberglass frame and later in a steel frame. Worth a look is that AMC used a ford wiper switch and the intermittent wiper switch and control module might plug into the factory harness for intermittent wipers. Look for a wiper switch from like a 80-90 ford f150, think i robbed mine out of a 86. I'd do a junk yard comparison.

I believe the Ford switch, while it looks similar and plugs right in, is wired differently. I used an AC Delco F6300 - like $30 from Amazon. This one was plug and play, if you have the electronics "black box".

I just installed mine last week and after turning them on, I just started giggling. I haven't had reliable wipers in 7 years. Hahahaha
