1973 CJ5 , AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l , Dana 30 /40 with 4.27s and rear locker.

Recently picked up this CJ, new to the group and loving it. It hasn't been driven much the last 5 years. Has new gears, rear locker, fuel tank but everything else is a bit rough and needs to be gone thru.

I plan to make it my desert/trail/lake rig. I have a place in lake arrowhead where it will mostly be used to hit the trails and haul kayaks. Will also be out in Johnson Valley, lytle creek, ocotillo, glamis, Dumont etc as well.

I still need to go thru everything, identify the Transmission /transfer, see what's stock or modified. I know the front leafs aren't stock. I've already acquired or installed basic tune up, ignition system, cooling system, brake lines/components, leaf bushings, seat belts,fuel lines, carb kit, etc. Once I get it dialed I will get tires, shocks, new leaf springs, extend the cage and tie it to the frame and rock sliders.

Besides searching the forum. Is the best place to get help with specifics on my CJ in the "members builds" forum? Thank you for your time.

I like the aluminum ones as they are stiffer than the steel ones.

Most of the ones im am finding are for AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l , 1981 and up. Do you know if those will fit the 73? Thank you for your time

Depending on the edition of your 73 it may bolt right up. Most need small modifications.

I am looking for an aluminum valve cover for my 78 CJ5 with the AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l . I'm finding plenty that will fit the 81 - 86 CJ but nothing for mine. The online instructions explain that the covers for the 81 - 86 are for those engines only.

Does anyone know if there is an after market valve cover source for a 1978 or am I just out of luck?

Might have Missed it while Speed Reading though the previous posts.....
But Ray Charles can see that Cross Link with the Welded piece of Angle iron......
