Clutch 1974 amc 304 flywheel

I have a 1982 CJ7 with the AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l inline six.im changing to the 1974 AMC 304 any ideas where I can find a flywheel

I've bought new and used from many different sources including most auto yards (its common for all year 304's). Just be sure it's for a 304 and not a 360/390/401 as they have a different balance and stock clutch dia. (10.5" vs 11") but most new flywheels are drilled for both.A friend just bought a new one for $75 from AMC Acres and other vendors vary in price.

Did you ever find one? I was all over the internet trying to find a new one and could not. I ended up getting mine turned. I thought it was bad, but it was actually okay after turning. I never found a new one, but someone suggested you could buy the 360 flywheel and have a good machine shop figure out how much to machine the counterweight down the right amount to balance it for the AMC 304 .

You are correct, a large displacement engine fly wheel can be made into a AMC 304 fly wheel but it takes very special balancing equipment that very few machine shops have now (high end speed shops are your best bet). If you find one you would need both fly wheels to compare.
I have used a shop in central Florida called Bo Laws now called BLP racing to static balance rods, knife edge cranks and balance, convert rods to floating pins and more. If you ever need there services and have the cash they are still open. They are well known for their NASCAR engine work.
