Build Thread 1979 CJ5 Frame off Restore

Here she is in one piece. I have owned this jeep for at least 12 years and have always wanted to do a restore. Well, I finally made the leap.It's in pretty fair shape except both front floor boards and the frame around the rear spring hangers. I'll try to keep this thing updated.

The frame is in fair shape except in the rear around the spring hangers.


The gas tank was very easy to get out

It is fun to tear them apart. The challenge comes trying to get all the little things back together right side up.

All the way down to the frame! Now comes the fun part!


A nice cllean frame to work with! The front three fourths of the frame is in excellent shape.
Definitely worth repairing the back end!

Rear driver's side from the top. I'll sand blast this and cut out
the worst metal, then weld in some new. My hopes are that I
can weld,grind, then weld and grind some more until it's pretty.

I have bookmarked your g+ photos page for reference. I am rebuilding a 76 CJ5 which I purchased during mid rebuild so I don't have the reference pics. Your breakdown is a goldmine for me. I am currently working on my tub and am about to begin going back together with everything. Thanks for the pics. Good luck with the rebuild !
