Build Thread 1979 CJ7 in remarkable condition!

I'm back into a CJ after 10 years in an 05 Rubicon Unlimited.

I picked up this 79 from Southern California. It has virtually no rust. There are two spots of rust. Yes, two. It's a base model with a T-18 4 speed that's completely untouched. I even have the original window sticker.

It was delivered just a couple of weeks ago, and I've started the dismantle for a full restoration.

Disassembly just about complete. All body mount bolts removed as well as all seat bolts and roll bar bolts. NOT A SINGLE BROKEN BOLT!!

I should have the body off and on its way to Daytona Beach for the Toy Box to blast and paint it all.

Since there's a hurricane coming, the time line likely will shift!

Cleaned up all the wire harnesses. Dash harness, engine, and front lights.

I used a 50/50 mix of simple green and water with a touch of electrical cleaner to remove the 40 year dielectric grease from the main plugs.

That stuff is great! I highly recommend it. It's not harsh and the wires look new.

May I recommend, that while you have the dash area apart. That you run a dedicated GND(-)lead from the dash panel directly to the NEG(-)of the battery.
This is also a good time to add a few hard wired GND leads.

Well, looks like I now have something else to do before I put mine back together......... I keep coming up with stuff like this to slow my progress, now you guys are helping..... I'll never get it back on the road. Now, gotta pick up some simple green tomorrow after work.

Ok - stupid question time.... Did you just wipe each wire individually or submerge it in a bucket of the cleaning solution? I had to look at the wiring porn pics again - amazing!!

I submerged the entire harness into a five gallon bucket. I used a small brush to clean the heavy parts. After that, I rinsed it all with water and sprayed all connectors with electrical cleaner.

I am very pleased with how it all came out.

A few interesting pictures to give you an idea of how original this jeep is.

The original part number sticker is still on the driveshafts after 40 years. And the other is the full exhaust covering. I've never actually seen the exhaust covering expect a picture or two.

or you can try an offsite hosting website. I use Photobucket because I have used them for years and being old, don't like change LOL. Upload your pics, copy the IMG link, insert into your post here, and viola!

I too use Photobucket. It is more or less free. I haven't gotten anywhere near my size limit, but I did pay the $4.99 to get rid of the ads. Made things go a little smoother. One thing to remember, if you delete a picture you posted, the picture in the post goes away too. Once you get the hang of it, really easy to use.

Sorry for the absence! I had a few life things. I had the distinct honor of laying my dad to rest in Arlington National Cemetery in November and then the holidays so things with the Jeep slowed as expected.
