Trans 1986 CJ7 Build

I am about to build a CJ7 with a Ford 302. What auto Transmission should I consider? C4, C6?. It will be used primarily on trails, street, and some mud. I plan to go to Moab from time to time too.

I wonder if advanced adapter makes a something that I can mate a Dana 300 to a C6.

A C6 that was mated to a NP208 should work
