231 engine dist. help needed

A buddy has a 231 and the dist wont go it all the way sits up about 1" or so. Any advise to get the dist. to drop in?

there should be a grove in the bottom of the shaft that must drop into the the oil pump. try turning the grove different angles and dropping it in...

Fords are kinda the same way. I usually just tap the starter a little at a time until it drops in.
