This is an AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l inline six. I want to make dead sure my RMS is the cause of my oil leak before I go through that again. The question I would like to toss out is, is there anything besides thevRMS that would cause a steady leak from the bellhouse casing under pressure. Jepp loses about a quart every 50 miles.

The reason I am asking is that the oil blowback is on the right side only. My thinking is that if it is leaking from the middle, like a RMS,the blowback oil would be on both sides. Could the timing chain cover/gasket be the culprit? Thanks for any help.

If it's right side only start by looking at the sending unit for the oil pressure switch (tap if a mechanical gauge) it's on the right side above the starter.

TBH if it's leaking anywhere other than the rear main seal you should be able to see it

Just went through replacing oil pan gasket and rear main seal on my AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l myself.
Go with Manic's advice first with the oil pressure sending unit.
If that's not it, check out the valve cover gasket which is another chronic oil leak spot.

Is your PCV valve and it's plumbing ok? If not, this can cause too much pressure within the crankcase/valve cover and lead to addl. oil leaks.
Lastly, what kind of gasket did you install on the oil pan?

Alright. Gasket by Felpro is a good call.

How did the other 3 suggestions go, for the oil leak? We’re here to help.
