how do I know if I have 1 or 2 piece axles?
Take off your rear wheel. If there is a big nut in the center of your hub then you have an OEM 2 piece axle like this one:

most of this trip will be accessible in a stock CJ. Poughkeepsie Gulch is the only exception. If you would like to come but think the trail may be too much for you or your CJ, please come anyway. I will direct you to any by-passes or alternate routes.
And don't think you will be the only one taking the alternate routes. From the beginning I have been saying this trip will be doable in a stock CJ. I have also been asking for feedback on the types of trails to go on. I put Poughkeepsie Gulch on the schedule because IO was the first to sign up and he asked for it.
Please continue to give me feedback on the types of trails you want to go on.
The one piece axle is my recommendation for anyone that drives their CJ off road or has oversized tires.

Looking to get up there for this, putting my leave in on Monday. I will be checking my axles tomorrow. I have a locker up front but only a posi unit in the AMC20 . This will be my first time running trails so we will see what happens.

you will be fine. %80 of this will be a truly fantastic trail ride.

Maybe for me, living down here on the flat, it is a bit more impressive. Do not forget your camera.

there is a cap over this nut, it is pretty obvious and you don't have to take the cap off. A one piece will be more or less flush with the rim.

God, I am going to be soooo outclassed.

y'all have to promise not to leave me on the mountain when I fall behind.
LOL - Jeepers don't do that! I envy you all that are going! I'm going to bust *** to try for next year (now that I can work on my CJ again)... You all have a great time, take plenty of pics and videos and most of all - Be Safe!

Alright, leave paperwork is in and I will be getting my reservations at the rivers edge this week. Cant wait.

I would so love to go, if my jeep ever quits taking all my money I'll be there next year.

The windshield banners are at the sign shop - I should be able to send them out on Monday. :)

A few words about communication:
On Sunday the 26th as you arrive call me on my cell phone. PM me if I haven't already given you my number.
That Sunday we can meet up for drinks and dinner.
On the trail we will communicate with CB radios if you have them.

Everyone please check over your CJs carefully, especially U-joints and other wear items. Even the latest CJs are almost 3 decades old so bring spare parts.
There will be no jeep left behind. We'll either fix, tow, or hobble you back to town.
This will be an adventure. I'm really looking forward to it.

What to wear?
Everyone bring lots of cloths, lots of layers. If you think your weatherman is inaccurate wait till you get to 13,000 feet. Even looking up at the sky you can't tell what the weather will be like in 10 minutes.
There have been many times I have been up in the mountains with very dark thunderhead clouds thinking I need to brace for a major storm. Then 10 minutes later the clouds blow away without dropping a sprinkle.
Also the opposite happens and you find yourself in rain or snow thinking "where did this come from?"

I have always liked the sound of the word "adventure".

Next year!

Cant wait to see the pics and trip report!

Sounds like this "adventure" will be a blast. When I think/dream of the ultimate off road adventure, it happens in country like Colorado! Take lots of video's and pics so we can take this "cyber adventure" afterwards. I would love to come along but even if mine was put back together, it's a loooooongg way to Co. for me. I'm there in spirit guys.

If anyone needs help about 50 miles around Trinidad, CO, I can help. I have a garage, lots of tools, and towing/trailering capability. We have Autozone, O'Rielly, NAPA, and Carquest in town.

My apologies as I will not be able to attend this meet and trail drive.
