304/360 swap

I have 76 CJ7 with a AMC 304 , 4 barrel holly and elderbrock intake with headers
I want to rebuild the AMC 304 with a mild cam . heard some talk I could do better if I find a 360 and build it .question is could I use my intake and headers and is it a lot of work to swap over from a AMC 304 to a 360 and would I really feel a differance

The 360 is a 100% direct swap right down to the clutch & bell housing including the intake. It will give you a little more pep. If given the same choice I would go with the 360. The 304 is probably marginal for a 4 barrel carb anyway without a good cam upgrade.

The only problem is the early engines were a little narrower because the block was not as tall, so as long as you dont have a I think 60s era intake it will be a direct swap

You are referencing a GEN 2 engine, production was stopped in 1970.

Yeah the newer AMC V8's are all compatible, a different beast from the earlier,less common V8.

The AMC 360 was introduced in 1971 and is completely compatable with the 304.
