I have all but convinced myself to install some type of TBI on my AMC 304 . My engine is low miles, completely stock with the exception of an HEI ignition. I'm looking for feedback from V8 owners on what TBI they used, how they like it, how it installed, what troubles they had, etc.

I haven't decided on a brand, could be a junkyard (Busted Jeep) flavor, could be a Howell, could be a Holley. I'm leaning towards the 4 injector Holley, but could be swayed depending on some solid feedback.

Let me know your experiences... :chug:

I’ve always been a carb guy, I enjoy rebuilding, and tuning them, still do.
However, the CJ I'm wheeling now has a howell FI system
I also bought a suburban for $400 and removed the complete FI system and parted the rest out = free FI.
I plan to install it in my current project.
A lot of good FI systems out there, but as you can see I prefer making my own harness along with used gm parts.
One thing I would recommend is to get the full benefit of going FI and add electronic timing control opposed to mechanical timing control (the computer does a far better job of this).
Lock down your HEI, removed the 4 pin module, and replace it with a 7 pin module. Run the wires back to the ecm, and tune your chip.
If you had the stock distributor you would lock it down and wire in an 8 pin gm module and run 4 wires back to the ecm. You would also have to remove the stock resistor wire and reprogram the chip as well.

Thanks Posi. I know we've discussed this several times on the phone. I'm leaning towards the Holley because I like the 4 injectors and it has detailed instructions for controlling the spark. Still have open ears though. If I was as good at all this as you I might look at it differently. The harness work intimidates me.

I don't know enough about holley FI to give my opining other then to say the early systems were problematic from what I've read.

Another option would be Hamilton FI, Bill can supply a mod distributor and chip. I'll PM you Bill's #
