I'm planning on swapping my AMC 304 for a 360, out of a 72 Wagoneer. The 360 motor is already out at a salvage yard. Will I need anything speacial to make this swap? Is there anything extra I should do while I have the 304 out prior to putting the new motor in? I don't want to spend a lot of money on this so nothing too wild. Also, I have no idea why my computer started typing in in this font. TIA. :chug:

Also, I will have a good running AMC 304 for sale when I am done with this project. Motor runs well, I would just like a few more ponies. :chug:

Everything from the AMC 304 will work on the 360, just be sure you use the 360 flexplate. 304's and 360's are balanced differently. It will just drop right in.

You will also need to swap the dizzy from the AMC 304 over to the 360. The '72 will have the old style Prestolite ignition and wont be compatible with your control module.

I've heard so many guys say "Nah, the AMC 304 and 360 flywheel are the same - bolts right up". Yup - sure does... bolt right up. CJim7 pointed out, they motors are balanced differently. Don't let the bolt pattern fool you ;)

You will need to swap over your AMC 304 motor mounts to the 360 as well.

So I am taking the 360 out of my 79 Cherokee and I want to put it in the 73 CJ5 . The 360 had an auto Transmission and the AMC 304 from the CJ is a manual. From what I have read here the 360 is externally balanced? What flywheel would I need? What about the motor mounts?

Sorry I don't know about the flywheel...
But the AMC 304 ?
Is it a good core? I want a spare to rebuild.
Thanks, Peter
