Ok guys just bought my donor vehicle, 97 grand Cherokee with a 4.0 and hints tips advice for the swap in my 80 CJ7 ? Best wire harness to get anything you guys got!

I'm sure I'm going to eventually get slapped on the hand for saying this all the time but I thin out and label obd1 harnesses as a side business and can make you a harness.

Are you using the 4.0 tranny too?

What's your harness run? And no it was a two wheel drive Cherokee just gonna be a driver

Do you plan on sticking with the cj auto forever? Or are you thinking of going to a 4.0 tranny? If you stay with your original tranny you will need to either modify the bellhousing for a cps and use a 4.0-flex plate. Otherwise you will need the hesco cps relocation kit.

The 97 4.0 will have the fuel pump port blocked off. You'll have to run an electric pump.

I knew about the fuel pump being it will be fuel injected but if I use the 4.0 tranny will the Transfer Case mount up to it?

You will need a clocking ring and, depending on the tranny, a new longer input shaft. Both are sold as a kit by advanced adapters for about 250

Not sure I understand your question. If you use a cj Transmission you need no adapters at all.

If you keep the cj Transmission you will need to deal with the cps. You can do that with the hesco relocation kit or by using a 4.0 fly wheel and modifying your bell housing to mate the sensor.

The relocation kit is the easiest and fastest means but will run you 300 plus. The modification to your bell housing is free if you know how to do it.

Personally I like to go with a 4.0 tranny when I swap but that would probably be the most expensive route.

Go with a 91-95 xj odb1 as a donor. The computer and harness will all work. Do your homework big time on this.

Nothing on the motor. You'd have to change fuel rails and injectors buy that's about it.
