4.3 distributor

Hi Everybody
Looking for some help. My brother swapped a 92 4.3 chevy into his jeep and it wont fire up. He's having trouble with the distributor. He has power to the dist. power at the coil but no spark at the plug. He has tried 2 different distributors with the same results. I don't believe he is using the computer. Its just a standard HEI.

I feel for ya there, I just replaced mine on my 78' AMC 304 . Be sure it is in properly, I'm not an expert on Chevys, but most distributors can be installed 180 degrees backwards and everything will work, but you won't get a spark. Also me sure to check the condition of you camshaft gear. Here's a link I used to install mine.

If this still doesn't work, triple check the wiring, many new distributors eliminate parts of the ignition process (ie solenoid) and if your wiring is good, then there is probably something wrong with the camshaft or timing belt, ect... Best of luck and hope this helped.

sounds like a bad coil or a bad ignition module.
Is the coil built into the cap?

Verify the motor has a good ground from the battery to the engine block.

A distributor will fire no matter position it is in. If it's got power and is turning then it will create a spark so if he's getting no spark at the plugs then he has either a bad coil in the cap, improperly gapped plugs, bad ground to the motor or bad power to the HEI.

Try to run power directly from the battery to the HEI to test it. If he's using the original coil power wire or stock wiring to power the HEI there's a chance it's not getting enough power to make it work.. They like a full 12volts.

Pull the cap and make sure the rotor is turning. If it is then the timing chain is fine.
