Can anyone offer a simple test to help make sure a 1979 CJ with the QuadraTrac differential 4wd works?

I really don't want to take a clean Jeep into a gravel parking lot and hammer it up.

My Limited knowledge now that I have researched it a bit, tells me that if I use the emergency locking selector in the glove box, the front driveshaft should spin correct? As it should not be spinning if just in 2wd.

TIA

Unless there has been a part time kit installed, there will be no 2wd option with the QuadraTrac . In stock form, it's always in 4wd, so the front driveshaft is always spinning.

Also, in stock form, the front axle has drive flanges (no lockout hubs). This will also cause the front driveshaft to always spin.

Unfortunately, I don't have enough experience with a Q-trac to know how to test one.

So in normal driving mode, on the street with no wheelspin, there is still torque applied to the front wheels? Then if offroad, or ice as a best example, if the rear wheels start to spin "more" torque is sent to the front drive shaft?

Yes.

I'm not 100% sure on that, but that's what I would expect. There is essentially a Limited slip differential inside the Q-trac to provide f/r bias. But I'm not familiar with the exact mechanics of it.
