Wow! That's great! I sure wish I had another half that could (would) work on my Jeep and change out the hubs! She's definitely a keeper!

truefully its her jeep. she works at a advance auto parts in the town south of the one i work at. she is a car nut to. she has changed pads and rotors on her 00 civic and all kinds of other things. i just sit in a chair and watch her. tell her if shes doing something wrong or if she has any ?s. the jeep is a us project.

lol. hope you didnt get in trouble. my wife dont like getting greasy either. she wears those what i call doctors gloves.

She said, "That's not true, I always come out and look when you ask!". 20 minutes later as we were going to bed I asked her to look at what I got done. She told me her show was coming back from commercial and she had to hurry up stairs so she didn't miss it. She is very predictable, and the most predictable part of her is she will never admit it.

well i think the 4wd is fixed. the wife and i took it out to a gravel road. locked the new warn hubs in. i took the Transfer Case shifter boot off. put it in 4l and the the dive shaft moved. same in 4h. so the next ? is how do i test it to find out if it is really working. she turned down a really muddy dirt road but i said turn around cause i didnt want to get stuck with my foot all wrapped up from my surgery.

Easy, put it on some dirt and floor it! Well, kinda... Just put it 4 wheel and pop the clutch for about a foot (in dirt) then stop. You should easily see 4 little spots where the wheels turned over.

got it out in the gravel today. locked it in. the wife poped the clutch and the pass front tire kicked up gravel. so i think it is working now.

theres a farm across the street from my wifes parents house. he has some woodland on part of it with trails going through them where they dear hunt. been through them when it was dry out. now i need to find a place close to nw ohio to go wheelin.

Well, technically the advantage of automatic over manual is that the front drive shafts will engage and disengage when ever needed. In the real world, they don't work that way all the time. Most people who use their vehicles for real off road use (not just a drive on a dirt road) only use manual hubs. Usually due to strength and peace of mind... They just work when you want them to work...

Full time 4wd always has power running to the front and the rear, you cant turn off the power distribution to the front wheels.

is that why my hubs broke?

after a fortnight on the beach, I came back and put it out of 4ed and it started making the most awful noises, took it to mechanic and they said the wheel hubs for 4x4 were broken and took them off saying i could drive it fine on the street but wouldn’t be able to use 4wd till it was fixed

Without knowing what kind of vehicle and what you were doing I couldn't even begin to answer. Can you offer up any more information?

I'm dissapointed that an old school JEEPER would skirt out and tell him to do a test like that! You know FULL WELL the only real way to find out if the fronts are powering, is to get the jeep into good wet nasty mud, turn the wheel slightly to the left, then look at your wife / GF, and say.....HONEY? do me a favor and stick your head out there to see if the front tire is spinning? Mash the pedal, and wait a second. You will know in an instant without question if it's under power or not.
