Build Thread '81 CJ-7 Laredo build
Sold enough stuff to get the Tie Rod / Drag link kit and the Goferit flip kit. Gotta ship the stuff out and wait on the money order ( Ive dealt with this person before :) ). Hopefully I can have my brother tack the flip kit in the weekend of the 12th.

So I basically traded a Slate Blue dash pad with a crack , a carter bbd with stepper motor and a set of Yj fold n tumble brackets for the beefy drag link , tie rod and flip kit. I can live with that. :chug:

Yeah I can definately live with it. When I went in to work the other moning it was a brisk 40*. Its getting to the point where I had to start thinking about a top and doors. I got rid of the hardtop that came on the Laredo originally. It had holes drilled in it for off road lights and the liftgate was shot. That coupled with the amount of room it took up made it easy to rid myself of it. The doors on the Jeep were the rotary style handle and just latched to the tub with no hardware whatsoever.

Since I had the hardtop and doors from the Limited and wont be painting that till Spring I figured Id save the room and just use them this Winter. I have to get them up to my Brothers to weld the holes shut anyway so I figured Id put them on. After bolting in the strikers I dropped them in the hinges. I have to adjust them for fitment but ran out of time last nite. The drivers side is way off.

Just ordered it up right now. I was waiting on the check for the parts I sold to clear. Sould be here by Friday. Thanks for the link. :chug:

Since my Limited doors are almost done I needed to get the hardtop ready as well. The doors will go in flat black for the Winter and hang on the Laredo . That leaves me with a blue top to convert. Right now it looks like a rather large cube of pool table chalk. It should be black by dinner time. :)

Tire rack.com has my Goodyear Kevlar MTR's delivered to my door for $992. Im hoping for some overtime or maybe sell a few more parts to help me make the last $350. Getting closer.:chug:

Well here we go. It looks good in black. A few touch ups and I'll put it and the doors on mid week.

Good deal, progress at its finest.

Ha , I like the simpler jobs. :D When it comes to painting it the body color of the Limited it wont be nearly as easy. There are small nicks and dings that I'll have to take time to fill in for sure.

Hey Pete, how much sanding did you do to the top? I'm planning on painting mine the same color as the tube. I'm just wondering how much it needs to be prepped first? I've never worked with fiberglass before. I'm not looking for that smooth body type finish, just want it to look good and match the tub. I like the door change. I'd like to do that sometime in the future, but the cost of doors is outrageous. Rod

2nd peanutbutter on the prep work. We want to paint our tops too!

I only spent about an hour sanding it with 110 grit then a quick once over with 220. I went around the contoured areas in the rear with a red scotch brite and then by hand with the 220 again. I just used Rustoleum rattle can gloss black then. It looks good now but we'll see how it holds up. The rattle can paint I used before faded pretty quick. The only reason I used rattle can again is I know it will just be getting repainted in the Spring when I paint it Slate Blue Metallic to match the Limited .

Using this top and doors was mainly to save room in the garage. Having two hardtops and two sets of doors took up way to much room. I do prefer the paddle style handles though. My rotary ones didnt come with the correct door latches either and their a p.i.t.a to find.

Got mine yesterday. They do look and feel good and sturdy. I'll have to figure out a day I can get the heavy duty steering box mount , brace , tie rod and drag link all on at once. Putting on the Hardtop and doors as well tonite.

Mine will be Duplicolor Midnight Blue. I plan on repaintig the inside white though. Have you thought about what you will do on the inside? Rod

Loving the Fall DECO!:D
No, really, good to see folks celebrating the "Seasons".

Wait till you see what I do around the place come Winter!! :D Actually I cant take credit for it , Vicki does that. Luckily Jeep parts arent seasonal cause Id never keep anything running with only 4 parts a year. ;)

I know how you feel about the inside of the top. Mine is actually pretty clean , plus I have the Limited headliner in it. Too bad its not clean enough though. Ive thought about painting it but honestly only for an instant. Thats something I'll revisit before I get it painted for the Limited .

My brother did a nice job on welding up all the holes in my doors. There was 18 in the passenger side. Its down to the acceptable two now for the sideview mirror. Vicki and I were talking and the Laredo cant look this way all Winter. Look for a refreshing of the flat black soon. :)

There's a nice looking Limited headliner listed in the 3rd party sales over on the Srambler board. You see it? Kinda pricey, but you could buy it and then sell yours!

Thanks for the heads up but yup , I saw it this morning. :) If mine was damaged Idve grabbed it but I cant afford to hoard. :D

After staring at the Cj and the pic below we decided that the hardtop looks so good in that gloss black we'll continue it on the body of the jeep. I love the look of the gloss black with the tinted hardtop windows.

Well its been a little rough around the household lately but I need to get back to the garage. Im finally going to install the drag link and tie rod tomorrow morning. I went downstairs yesterday and couldnt find my grease gun. I vaugely remember lending it to someone but I wont have time to call C.S.I. Slatington Pa.

I grabbed my boxed up tie rod and drag link to work to get the ends filled with grease. I figured Id just get the maintinence guys to fill them and Id throw the box back in ths Jeep. One of the guys knows Ive been struggling with going to the garage since my dog passed. He threw this stuff in the box I brought and told me to get back down in the garage. :)
