I replaced the fuel pump saturday. When I took it out it drive good until went to turn around and as
I had the clutch held down and pushing the brakes it died. Started it back up drove back to the house no problems until slowing down, it died, I down shifted, released the clutch and it fired back up. If I alternate brake and gas it still tries to die but giving it gas prevents that. Going to try and clean the carb better tonight maybe that helps I don't know. What does the forum say

A leaky power brake booster can cause stalling when the brakes are applied due to the vacumn escaping. You could try to disconnect and plug the vacumn hose to the booster to check that. Providing you even have power brakes.

I don't think I have power brakes

Could the carburetor need to be tuned? It just seems like it is not getting enough fuel once I let off the throttle. As far as a vacuum gauge is concerned, I do not have one of those; where could I get one?

Vacumn gauges are available at your local auto parts store. How to properly use one would be on the www. It very well could be a cruddy carb or possible low float bowl level. There could be issues with not getting enough fuel up to the fuel pump which would wear it out. It does sound like something related to the fuel system though.
