Well a buddy of mine wants me to work on his bike so he gave me a bunch of 1/4 inch aluminum to work with for my Jeep trailer

I have been wanting to make a 5x5 trailer that mimics the look of the CJ tub

I am looking at putting some 3500# axles under it and clad it in aluminum skin

I have not decided how long to make the tongue yet... I think I want to go 4 feet so I can have the max maneuverability with it

I weighed it for giggles and with the tongue beam still being 15 foot long it all weighs 129 pounds

That will be pretty cool. Looking forward to the build. Axel or axels ?

This will be cool. I saw dude around where I live who did that with an MJ.

Here is a tidbit I found on tongue length

According to the California Department of Motor Vehicles, a trailer's tongue length should be twice the width of its tires, but no more than 6 inches longer than the distance between the tongue and axle

I have a 10' trailer with a A shaped tongue, if you like I can take pictures and measurements of it.

It pulls great and is not afraid of somewhere above west Texas speeds :)

I could get the measurements from my M-100 trailer as well if you like. Tracks nice behind the Cj.

So by the California tongue rule they are measuring yours at 68.5 inches long which would be 62.5 inches on your tires +6 inches for a total of 68.5?

First my trailer is 29 years old.

it is 60" between tires so that being said it could be 120"

then the distance from axle to tip of tongue is 101 so it looks like mine is 19" to short  guess I need to slow my diesel down some.

the one thing about mine though is the axle is set pretty far back as it is not easy to pick up when empty. I can stand on the rear edge of the trailer and just about get the front to come up and I am 210.
