I noticed a plug in the elbow above the thermostat on my AMC 304 . Can that opening be used for a thermostat for a electric fan? I still can't figure out how to take an image from the gallery and put it in this thread, but if you went to my gallery you would see it. If not does anyone know where I can put it? And last 2 questions, has anyone had personal experience with champion or Asi radiators, and 2-12" fans or a single 16"?

Welcome!
The cj's aren't that technically advanced to have electric fan plug in stock form. However a po my have added on one. Does it have efi? If so it my be a feature added to the efi.
I have an electric fan but uses a thermal switch routed through a relay, no computer control.

Thank you! No, no efi. It looks as stock as it can be. The plan was to put in an electric fan and try and use a thermostat and relay kit, something like this:

I just don't know if I have somewhere to screw it in to, or do I have to go with a probe that goes into the radiator core fins. There is that plug in the thermostat elbow that I can take out, I just don't know if it's a good location.

I inserted a T fitting in the upper radiator hose for my temp sensor. Like this one from Summit. I now have the EFI control it. But this worked like a charm in conjunction with the flex-a-lite control unit

That's a heck of an idea, thanks!

Since the Sniper came with a temp sensor that was a different size than I had in that fitting, I had to get another one and I pit it in the heater hose coming off of the thermostat. Same concept, just a different size.

Yes similar but a Derale temperature controlled electric fan kit from Summit racing. I used a port in one of the heads for the sensor. I do like the hose adapter option.

The radiator hose tee is a good option. Just make sure to use a temp switch (or adjustable sensor) that is set a bit higher than your thermostat temperature. Otherwise your fan will be running when its not needed. Having the sensor a higher temp then your thermostat will make sure the fans only come on when passive cooling is not enough. A lot of the time passive cooling is enough to keep the coolant at regulating temps.

^^^^ This! Since I did this, my fans only come on when I have sat and idled a bit. We will see in the summer but either way, the passive cooling is enough.

Also, some mechanic friends of mine said that the location of the stock temp sensor above the #6 cylinder (258ci) is not a food placement for the sensor for the fan. It wasn’t an option for me anyway. But just passing the information on.

The sensor wiring kit I'm looking into is a 185 on/165 off. That should work right? I really like that inline hose idea and found a decent one on Ebay for around $40, but I got to thinking about it. Being it's in the same general area wouldn't me putting the sensor where that plug is in the upper hose elbow above the pop open thermostat do the same thing?

Probably would be similar. Do you have a picture? Do you know the size and threading of the plug? The sensor would have to be the same threading.

I have a pic of it in my gallery, I still can't figure out how to bring images from the gallery to the thread. I'm no expert but if I had to guess I would say it's either 1/4" or 3/8" pipe thread. It's interesting, I've never seen an elbow like this with a factory made spot for a plug. If you get the chance take a look at the pic and tell me what you think.

Looks like 3/8s tp me in the pic (maybe). Personally, I would give it a try. Pull the plug out and see if the sensor fits in there. If so, see if it works to turn on the fans, Worst case, you end up putting the plug back in. Just leave yourself enough wire at first in case you need to move it to a T fitting later. But I don't see how that location is any different than mine in the heater hose coming off of the thermostat. And it works fine for me.

That's a really good idea, I'm going to pull it off anyway to change the thermostat. I'm going to order the wiring and sensor and when I pull it apart I'll check. I would do it now but we have to see if it will run first before I pull everything apart. Worst case scenario is I just put in the inline fitting if it doesn't work.

Let me see if I can help you with this. When typing in the box to the right under the smilies you will see "my gallery images" and in red insert an image. When you click on the red your pics should come up and click on the one you want in the post. Now if it doesn't work you may need to go up to the top right corner and on mine there is a star next to a book and then a square with a shield. Click on the square with the shield and a box will pop up that that says show all content click on that and then it should work. Hope this helps

I can get to the gallery but when I click on an image it does nothing. None of my smiles or above icons work either. I don't see a star, book, or shield anywhere. Maybe it's the site because I don't really get email notifications either. I don't know but its frustrating....

so a few things. first and fore most get rid of that plastic fire hazard of a fuel filter that thing is a fire waiting to happen.

second im not sure that port in your t-stat housing will work as the probe for the sensor may bottom out or interfere with the t-stat. the best place would be in the head somewhere or in the intake as there should be a port. i will get some pics of my wifes AMC 304 cj and see if i can find you a spot.

as for the fans i am running a single 16" fan however i had to trim mine down to make it fit on the radiator so you may want to get a 14". other wise i have the 195-165 temp switch run through a relay i got all my parts from amazon for like 60 bucks. ill see if i can find you some links.

here is the setup i have. like i said i had to rim my 16" to make it fit so you may want to go with a 14.

LOL, yeah, the fuel system is going to get a complete overhaul too. I'm going to start asking questions about that one in the near future. I would really appreciate it if you could look at your wife's. My first thought was somewhere in the intake manifold but dang if I could find it. I was thinking of twin 12" fans. Thoughts?
