a trip to the parts house

a trip to the parts house
if anything in my store was made in the USA id be shocked. it might say made in the USA but that is just the box. the part is made where ever esle in the world.

i can tell you right now. i would be shocked if i found anything in my store made in USA. i know we have some stuff the boxes say made in the USA, but thats just the box. the part is made everywhere else in the world.
that is what I am talking about, we need to start a movement

I am afraid the ship has sailed. the first action of our movement would involve walking. would you believe you can not even buy a nut or bolt that is made in this country?

we had a meeting with a federal mougel who makes bca national bearings and seal, moog , and wagner brake pads. he said all are built in china but ran and over seen by americans. i told him that was still a joke cause the chinese are the ones making it and getting paid to make it not americans. he acted like this was the best thing in the world that the parts were being made over there. he was like there is 5 steal mills in china and they only uses 2 of them cause they have the best steal. well who gives a :dung: about there steal mills when we had a bunch of good ones here that are closed now.

Dale, I would give anything to agree with you but I can't. Our steel mills were outdated, and run down and used technology that was obsolete 40 years before they finely went out of business.
We thought we had the world by Burt and Ernie and the world proved us wrong. As it is there are more people in bureaucratic positions in the federal government than there are in manufacturing jobs. That is scary!!
Now we are what they call a service economy, we do things for other people. The trick to survival in a service economy is to be sure you don’t end up doing one of the service jobs requiring you to ask people “Would you like fries with you order sir??”:punk:

Damn, aren’t I a little ray of sunshine?

no you nailed it, and it is sad that the only new jobs being created today are in that industry, we have outsourced the rest of our jobs. And look at what it has done to us in the last 2 years. Funny though, we now have the manpower sitting around to fill those jobs, but we sent them out of the country. We have the technology to open modern mills, after all, every mill gets behind in tech if you do not constantly update them.

I have to disagree with the steelmill thing. Our machine shop tried to save money by buying china steel a couple times. We had problems with heat treating it. We went back to american made steel and have no problems. Our mills my be old but they still make superior steel.
Big bussness is to wraped up in making a big profit instead of making a quility product. IMO

I agree with reservations. tool steel is one thing but A-36 and wide flange are some thing else, and that is where most of the pig iron ends up and so where most of the money is made.
We have a small mill here in north Texas called Chaparral steel. The mill is state of the art and makes money hand over fist. They also specialize in a rather narrow range of products.
We could do it, but there is little incentive for the money to be spent.

I would just as soon not get into the politics of steel and automobiles and other things that this country has pissed away.

For it is written" discretion is the better part of cowards".

I have an update on this thread. I went to the zone Friday and discovered a "new" suggestive selling program. Maybe it isn't new and I just noticed it. There is something on the counter at the register that is, on sale, discontinued or maybe just inexpensive. The counter person asks that all important question “would you like a (substitute an automotive equivalent of order of French fries) with that?
Oh the times in which we live. Mickey D’s is selling oil by the case.
