What year did they stop using an air pump and manifold injection?? What was the next system?:D

I think they only came on the CA modals. I've got a '83 and '84 and both didn't come with it.

My 77 had one and no cat. My 81 J-10 did not and I have always kind of wondered what the transition was up to the EFI. It is kind of strange that emissions is not discussed in and depth in any service manual I have seen.:D

IO, the '80 CJ7 AMC 304 HAD air injection, best I can tell. The ports are blind-bolted off. She is pretty much spayed now, no pollution/smog gear remaining.

And see both mine had cats

Air pulse emission systems started in 1972; not sure when they stopped for sure but believe they ran until fuel injection became the norm in 1991 (Wrangler). In the early days of Cats (1972) the need was based on the GVW of the vehicle. The intent was to catch the cars of the day. CJs escaped and all ½ ton & up pickups were exempt too but by the next year, 1973, the CJ fell as it was rated as a ¼ ton vehicle regardless of whether or not the jeep had California emissions. The Fed kept raising the GVW cut off each year until they got just about everything gas under the system. I have heard of a 1977 CJ out of the box not having a cat before but the OEM Factory manual show them as standard on all CJs.
