Mine is missing and was debating on order a new one, but for $30+ bucks, seems expensive for a 2 ft piece of cheap plastic.

It depends on who you talk to, but I think that most people will tell you no. I'm going to say no, heck, I run a round k&n air filter and nothing more.
 
I agree, no you don't need it, but it will get the carb fresh cool air instead of hot under hood air.;)
 
Ok thanks... Just trying to rule everything else out that's possibly the culprit on why it randomly dies when coming to a stop sometimes. If I find one cheap ill pick it up, otherwise ill just wait.
 
I used the intake tube along with the heat riser on the exhaust manifold and it ran so much better, and it never overheated. Carbs like a stable intake air temp.
