In my original post about it below, I wasn't getting a functioning EGR because my dual CTO(ported vacuum switch) and charcoal/vapor canister needed replacement. The canister is the last of the parts needed after getting the diagnostic from the test & repair station.

After doing some searching and calling parts stores and manufactures, CP1061 and CP3045 are on "severe national back order".

I found one that looks similar those part numbers. It's original application was for a 1993 GMC Jimmy. Could I fab these to work for my CJ7 ?

Jeep Parts Depot in Sun Valley is where I got a YJ canister. I didn't know how to check it if worked when I bought it. They said they'll let me exchange it, but I'll give them a shot.

Take the time to research just how the charcoal cannister works and you will see just how important item it is. I would think there are a few others that would work just fine other than the oem style. They are rebuildable also.

I have some stock CJ canisters if your interested shoot me a PM.

Posi, I read You have stock Cj canister.
Are these the oem ?
If yes , can you please tell me the price and if you can send it to Italy?
Thanks

Yes oem, I'll send you a pic when I get a chance. I'll can ship it not a proplem.

Does anyone know of a way to test the canister to see if it's still working?

Someone mentioned something about a "pinch" test at some point but thats all I remember.

I guess if you dont get a strong fuel smell that could be an indicator.

I wouldn't even bother with a used OEM CJ canister unless you got it for practically free. Any used CJ canister is going to be at least 28 years old and may already be bad. What usually fails is the thin rubber diaphragm in the purge valve. It tears and develops leaks from old age which allows the system to draw in air through the PCV line at idle. My canister purge valve is also not functioning. I'm going to be replacing with with one of the newer models listed above. I did this years back on my 85 CJ7 and it worked fine. The canister was from a YJ. It is kind of a shame to throw the whole thing away, I wish someone would make a replacement diaphragm.
