I decided to tackle the wiring mess behind my rear wheel today. The previous owner had apparently let his 10 year-old install a trailer wire harness at one point. There were wires twisted together and covered with a bit of aging electrical tape, and stuff hanging everywhere.

I know my taillights and turn signals were working correctly earlier today.

When I finished making the wiring look neater and less likely to short out on the frame (this did happen last month) I started checking to make sure all was well. Sure enough the right turn signal and and brake light did not work. Both taillghts still worked.

After making sure all wires were accounted for I checked the bulb. It looked okay so I kept dinking around with the wiring looking for mistake. Finally I decided to switch bulbs from right to left. Just like magic my left left side turn signal and brake light didn't work.

Yep, a bad bulb cost me a good 30 minutes of work and frustration. I would have checked them more closely had they not worked earlier in the day. Oh well, all is good again with the CJ.
