I believe this is a Motorcraft 2100 2 barrel carb? Yes or no?

I can get a rebuild kit for it fairly easily. Should I rebuild it or just leave it?

I'd like to get a manual choke for it. Thinking about getting the Dorman universal kit from Autozone, but I don't know if there is a better option.

About the distributor cap. The Jeep was converted to electronic ignition at some point in the past. I want to do a cap/rotor/wires/plugs on it before I drive it too much more. Any idea which one to get?

What is the deal with the black line going into the front of the cap?

So much to learn! Sorry for all the questions.

You mean the vacuum hose?

A rebuild for that looks like it would do some good.

ignition appears to be factory prestolite system, not converted.

Teach me. How can you tell? I'll take pictures tomorrow that show why I thought that it had been converted. Sounds like maybe I'm looking at something wrong.

It does appear to be a MC 2100 but possibly a 2150 they are pretty much the same carb but one difference is jet size.
Can't help with the rest.

I found a great rebuild guide online last night, so I feel confident I can rebuild this carb if I go slowly so I don't screw it up.

you should obtain a factory service manual for your year of vehicle. there is a lot of basic information you could learn.

I need to learn about the 360 engine and all the tech I've never touched before. But this Jeep has a 360, which wasn't an option on the CJ. It was on the 77 Wagoneer. Maybe I could find one of those?

The 1977 Factory Service Manual (FSM) covers the AMC 232 i6 , AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l , AMC 304 , 360, and 401.
You can find them for sale from free to $75. I purchased a good quality 77 FSM for $13 off ebay.

Rebuilding the carb is not hard. Some basic tips are these:

Have a couple of buckets on hand for cleaning the parts in.

Carb cleaner comes in spray cans from any auto parts store, brand doesn't matter. Brake cleaner can work too.

Many little parts are pressed in so just be smart about what you try to take out.

A carb is just a bunch of passageways that need to remain unblocked, there's no magic in them ;-)

An accelerator pump will have a rubber diaphragm, a spring, and a small ball bearing (check valve). The ball may be held in place so it doesn't come out, just keep an eye open for it. A kit may even contain a new one.

In the float bowl the needle is very loose. Open the carb carefully and observe how the needle is hooked to the float (it hangs on it), it's very simple. The kit will have a new needle and brass seat (the seat screws in to the body). Make sure you replace them both, the used parts may not seat well and could leak. There is a small round gasket on the seat when you screw it down also.

Finally, don't listen to any hype about carb cleaning like "they have to be sonic cleaned or they won't work", or "they need to be dunked in a special chemical"... blah blah blah. Wipe out as much as you can on the inside especially in the bowl because that's where dirt will deposit itself, and make sure you can spray cleaner through all the holes and that it comes out at some other end like it should. -and don't spray yourself in the eye!

And if you havn't done it yet, read the thread at the top of this forum labeled "Team Rush", that will tell you about the cap and rotor stuff. I did this on my AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l and it is a great upgrade.

Here are some pictures of the engine compartment. Can you all look at it and tell me what I'm looking at. I thought it was already converted to electronic ignition.

I might be completely conflating a couple things in my mind, so if you can explain how I'm wrong, that would be great.

It's not converted....it's factory, regardless of AMC 304 , 360, 401 for that era.
It's a Prestolite electronic ignition system.

Team Rush upgrade only applies to 1978 and later Motorcraft ignition system.

Well darn.

So.....what cap and rotor and wireset do I need then? I just want to get the right thing the first time.

This according to your profile

The CID of the V8 AMC engine won't matter

The components you seek are the same for all Jeep V8 models of

your year.

You're right, it's not factory. It was replaced at some point in the past 42 years. I will use the AMC 304 option as the one I use for figuring out what I need. Thanks k you!

Just order engine parts for a 1977 360 FSJ "Wagon" or Cherokee.
