Once again i need help with my AMC 304 . After rebuilding the engine and dealing with the worn out mc2100 carb i bought a rebuilt one. It came from Autoline via Autozone. I bolted it onto the adapter that was on the intake, and im getting a nasty intake leak but only after it warms up. Ive checked to make sure the gaskets mate up properly as ive read that there can be an issue. Finally i removed the adapter and it seems it may have some warping. Also i noticed aome very fine circular cracks around two of the bolts that mount the adapter to the intake. I contacted the guy in Colorado that builds adapters and carbs for jeeps and he says my motor doesnt need an adapter, that the mc2100 ahould bolt right to the manifold, but no such luck. I looked at the adapter again and it is stamped with a part number of 3197877. Im told this was an adapter from amc when they used the 2100 carb on a 2 barrel intake on a amc 360, sometimes on a javelin. Can anyone confirm this? I bought the me gasket adapter #1937, but its such a cheesy setup id like something better, but trying to get the guy in colorado to respond is impossible. Can anyone help? Thank you.

So are we thinking you have a 4BBL intake off a 360 on your otherwise stock AMC 304 ? If so, the 1937 may not help. I think that adapter is for differing 2bbl to 2bbl scenarios. I think the 1933 is what you might need...IF I understand this correctly...

Gotcha - I re-read your post, now I understand.

What is this faulty piece made of? Steel? Aluminum? Or is it like a fiber?

Its cast aluminum with two vacuum ports out the back. I could see the slight warping causing an issue, i could see that the tiny cracks around the bolt holea being an issue, ive even heard of the casting seem that goes around the center of it opening up and causing leaks. So many possible problems im not going to bother having it machined flat. I would really like to get one from the guy in colorado but hea not responding. The outer bolt holes on the adapter fit the mc2100, the inner bolt pattern is 2" x 3-3/4".

Well this might be a rough week to get ahold of someone in a small business... A lot are skeleton crew or less.

I'm wondering if you don't have the phenolic spacer and have this instead? Is what you have genuinely an adapter in that it allows you to go from one bolt pattern to another bolt pattern or is this more of a spacer?

Stock AMC 304 in a Jeep application had manifold, gasket, phenolic spacer, gasket, carb in that order. I may have an extra gasket in there, but that was basically it. All carb based vacuum if I remember correctly ran off carb and none off spacer of any kind.

Pictures would be awesome. If you have trouble, Tapatalk for a smartphone is by far the easiest way to post pics.

I will look into tapatalk and try to post pictures tomorrow or tonight. Its definitely an adapter going from ine boltmpattern to another. After researching the part number of the adapter i believe the intake came from a 360
