Found a AMC 360 rebuilt that has some burn damage. The back half of the engine. It looks like the entire jeep body is burned. So it looks to have gotten pretty hot, but again, the back the valve covers and the air cleaner have burn damage. According to the owner, the engine has a fresh rebuild only 200 miles. Question is, how risky wouod it be to buy? I would imagine the intake being aluminum would probably need to be replaced, but what other potential problems? Front of engine is clean. What would be a fair offer?

I would consider as how hot did the fire get? If it got even fairly hot and was put out with water, that could go as far as cracking the cast iron block or heads plus damaging valve seals. Warping is also a factor that you might find by removing the heads, just like an engine that has overheated. A brief gasoline fire that was put out with an extinguisher might fair o.k. though. Looking for any melted aluminum would show some excessive overheating. If it is cheap enough and you want to take the risk, the choice is yours.

there are lots of 360's out there, I'd leave it alone.

If you consider this motor I personally would dis assemble it and check all the components, the pistons are aluminum as well as the intake, as mentioned above the block could have cracked and the gaskets could be shot, it is a bit of a gamble the motor could be toast or it could be just fine, you wont know til you give it a thorough inspection
