I have a friend with 3 colors and about a 4 ft loop-hoop sticking out in front his winch

I'm lucky. Kept in a garage last 27 years. First 7 in the weather. Only one place where I have small cancer area which is almost impossible to work on. Damed AMC and there no protection for metal to metal connections

You do anything extra to protect it from the salt air?
