AMC ignition module

In digging around the box of stuff that came with the Jeep, I ran across an old AMC ignition module.



It cleaned up halfway decently, and I'd like to use it if it's still good. Don't know why he kept it if it's bad, but why take it off if it's good. At some point I want to upgrade the ignition to the MSD box, but in the mean time, figured this would be cool to run if it works. Another option would be to use it for a "stealth HEI" conversion if it winds up being a bad module.....

You could take to an auto parts for testing, fyi. I keep one for a spare.

Just pull the two plugs on the current module and plug it into the spare. The spare doesn't need to be grounded, the ground is in the wiring to the module.

Now, that will present a small problem.... Jeep is currently spread all over the garage / basement. LOL. If I knew someone close by with a CJ I'd try it in theirs, but it'll be a while before I can try it in mine..... It's current state of disassembly dictates I wait.

I'd be leary of the results. I had my bad ICM checked and it tested out fine. A new one solved my issues.

From what I have gathered over the years the AMC module is quite a prize for those who still use that type of ignition system, as they are no longer made. The Echlin version made thru N.A.P.A. auto parts is the closest thing to it in my opinion. Although they are quite proud of it. I have heard of other brands of it and for a lot cheaper to buy but don't expect it to last as long. If anything to make one last longer it would be to run the black ground wire from it directly to the battery negative. If you suspect your module is going bad they do get warm to to touch when they start to fail.
