he's gained a working axle compared to a broke one. there doesn't always have to be an upgrade. if it's a road jeep he can get by just fine with two piece axles. depends really what he plans to do with it. depending on the price of this set of axles he's getting, it would be a good way to get him back on the road again.

if you don't need the six, what would you want for it? mine just died.

I wouldn't need the 6, he's selling everything for a cheap price, that's why I was gonna grab it all. And I agree I'd have a working axle, a spare front axle. And could build the old one currently in my jeep. It is just a road jeep. Drive it to work occasionally when it's nice out. Take the kids for a cruise on the back roads. Teach them how to drive, and drive stick.

It's nice having spare parts that will make working on the Jeep easier

The spares can be sold to help fund upgrades-BTDT many times. :notworthy:

Left rear is solid, right rear has about 4 inches of play in it, neither spin when in the air. Currently trying to get the left rear tire off.

Is that 4" of rotational play?

Sounds like your 2-piece axle is about to separate.
DON'T DRIVE IT!
Can you turn the axle's nut that holds the hub on??
LG

That rear end that guy has for sale is a Dana 44 it looks like from the picture he sent of the cover on it. Good or bad fellas?

Nut'n on that 44 will ever fit a 20.
44's are a far better axle!

It's complete drum to drum. New brakes wheel cylinders drums while nine yards

Is this out of a late model CJ, or and early model?
Will the R&P ratio be the same to what you have now. Front R&P have to be the same as the rear.
Can you post the pictures?
LG

Outta an 80 cj. Not sure if the gears are the same, but I'm buying the front axle too. Guy just wants the frame for a project. So I'm getting it axles shocks leaf springs.

:agree:

Maybe it's been swapped then? Back plate to back plate measured 45 1/2 inches roughly in the photo he sent me, mine measured the same.

Does this seller know the ratio?

If you decide to go with the Dana 44 , you might want to check the AMC20 brake drums. When we switched from the AMC20 to a Dana 44 on our 79 CJ7 , we used a Dana 44 out of a 72 CJ5 . The brake drums from the 20 were a direct fit for the 44. Since they were in much better condition, we used the drums from the old 20.
