Working on cleaning up the engine!

Got the Transmission back. This is what was needed;

Gasket and seal kit
Transfer Case gasket and seal kit
Front main shaft bearing
Rear main shaft bearing
Thrust washers
Bearing backing plate
Emergency brake shoes
Reface emergency brake drum

Total with labor- $747.00, that hurt but needed to be done right the first time.

Still getting in "new" old parts for engine.
It has be cleaned, and will receive Buick "green" paint soon.
I'm pleased with the way it is turning out thus far.

Did you ever figure out what Transmission you had.At one point you thought T-89 orT-90. Which of course would not be right for a V-6 jeep.
Looks very T-86 ,ish to me. What you say. mike s.

Oops sorry, you are correct mstar, it is a T-86 Transmission . When I purchased the jeep and was doing some research on the parts, everything I came across said it came with the T-90 , which seems to be the popular one of the two. The shop seemed to have a hard time finding parts. I usually by from Walks or Kaiser Willys auto supply and perhaps at the time neither one had parts for it. I'm guessing the T-86 was matched with the Dauntless Buick 225 V6 V6.

Yes your info seems to be correct. Very nice job. Your son must be learning
a lot with this project. mike

Mstar, do you also have the Ross steering on your '67 CJ5 ?
If so, how does it handle, and what size tires are you running with it?

Yes I have Ross steering .All steering components have been replaced or serviced except the ross box. It has a little play but not objectionable.
Running 31-10.50's on 8" wheels. Drives like a dream. I may rebuild the ross box at some point as I didn't know about the sector shaft being available when I had it out. I also have a build thread on here.Hven't done anything lately except put CB Radio back in and tune antenna.:) mike

Thanks for the info mstar. I also replace all the steering components and rebuild Ross box, but did not replace the sector shaft as I could not locate one at a reasonable price, $200.00+, and that was just the shaft.
Instead I had a friend take the pivets off and rotate them until the flat side would not be touching the worm gear.

I'll have to look at my notes, I seem to remember that there is a military jeep that uses the same sector shaft in its box. It was NOS, however, once again it cost $$$.

Hey mstar, what is the name of your build thread?

Some up date on my build;

Jeep tube and pieces are too be painted.

Cleaned up engine and replaced the aftermarket valve covers with "new" old ones. Also replaced the air filter with an original oil bath cleaner. I have not replaced the delco alternator, but will be replacing it with a Motorola one, I'm sure I'll get some grief on that last one. I've managed, with the help of my son, to merge the engine and Transmission together. It just didn't want to go that last inch or so. Against my better judgment, I used the bell housing bolts to pull them together. I hears that was a good way of cracking the bell housing, but I was careful and only turned each bolt a little at a time.

Now, I'll be working on the wiring harness. Since it is a CJ6 and a little longer than the 5's, I ordered it from Walcks since they make them there.

I'll also be replacing the seats, not sure if you remember what they looked liked, but sure they are not jeep seats at all, maybe boat.

Thanks for sharing the pictures Pete, now I have a visual of where my money is going!:)
When I first looked at your profile and saw you were from PA, I was wondering if you were a patron of there's being from the same state, that's cool that your in driving distance.
I hope you are having some good weather to work on your jeep! Or better yet, drive it. I suppose you don't still have the '49?

Your welcome. Walcks is a great place. The '49 is long gone. That went with a divorce years ago. Dont even have a pic. :( I bought it cause it had a fiberglass tub and 35 in tires. It also had a Ford 302. Problem was everything else drivetrain wise was stock. The guy was selling it cause he kept blowing transmissions. :rolleyes: It was way to big of a project for me all those years ago.

New paint, the color is Jeeps 2014 Amp'd. Have only seen two this color in my town. One was on a four door. It was different and reminded me of an old school color. I really wanted to Repaint the 6 the original color, but as I mentioned before, I just don't like a red vehicle.
So what do you think of the color?

Looks very nice. Looks like you are turning that 6 into gold :D
