Another 5 gallons please....

Another 5 gallons please....
I fear for what this country will look like in another 10 years. :censored:

And why is it that the stupid people always win in court, and the rest of us end up with the "new and improved" version that doesn't work.:(
I agree and would like to know where are all these stupid people comming from. I swear there is no common sense any more I look at some people and wonder how they got dressed in the morning. I deal with the public every day and it just seems to be more of a challenge every year. Sorry I'm done venting now.

Hedge, Out of curiosity , what is your gas gauge doing that is making the jeep unreliable? I kept losing fuel pressure in my cj Despite putting almost 2 whole 5 gallon cans in it. I did some investigation and it looks like the poly 20 gal tank I have was actually swapped in by the PO and not the original. My theory is that he was lazy or didnt know any better and reused the 15 gall sending unit which obviously would have a shorter pick up tube. This would also explain why the gauge is reading 0 despite having somewhere between 8 and 10 gallons in the tank.

I havent had a chance to drop my tank and test my theory but I have a new one rady to go in after the shop gets done fixing the crappy job the previous shop did hooking up my headers to my down pipe.

just an idea. if anyone is good at fab work you could get marine outboard fuel tanks that are rated for being outdoors (the red ones) and fab up a method to strap them on top of the rear fender wells in the back and plumb siphon pumps to the tank then make a shroud for the saddle tanks on the wheel wells and probably have 20-30 gallons easy of storage without sacrificing anything as long as that space isnt planned for lock boxes or speakers.

ThisGuyuKnow - You are most likely correct in that you still have the stock sending unit in the tank. Some stock sending units are hard to find, but the manufacturer of the 20 gal tank should have a sending unit that goes or went along with it. I suppose in some ways it would be nice to have a bunch of gas left after the guage reads empty.

I am not convinced that my sending unit is bad, I think the gauge is becoming a little balky. When I fill her up the gauge sometimes says FULL sometimes says 3/4+. At this point I will need to become accustomed to how my gauge reads.

Extra fuel isn't necessarily only due to a faulty gas gauge. My Jeep has a 15 gallon fuel tank, at this point it appears that I will be getting ~10 mpg, that's AMC 150 miles on a full tank. AMC 150 miles isn't far out here in the west, all it would take is missing one gas station along the way to end up walking. Not a good scynerio as about AMC 150 illegal border crossers find out every year.

Rufus11338 - As you know a CJ5 has extremely Limited cargo space, every inch is premium realestate. So, the most important consideration is not useing any bed or interior space for items like a gas can. Here is a thought though, my Jeep will never bottom out in the wheel wells, it won't even come close. It would be cool to work up a gas tank system that mounted up under the wheel wells, very similar to saddle tanks. This requires some consideration.

That's easy. Intelligent people look and know they can only have children they can afford.

Stupid people are paid according to the number of children they have; the more they have, the more their check is every month.

They are breeding much faster than we are.

I am not in disagreement, but the discussion of what is happening to our society isn't even close to the main topic here. As a matter of fact I'm not so sure some of the spin off thoughts are legal topics of conversation here on this board. I know, it's frustrating, but please lets not go there.

wow i missed something there. lol

Sorry about that. The ADD strikes again!

Here you go. Another option that is removable when not in use. Jsherb has done some really, really cool projects....he MADE that top for the Jeep in the pictures, using his CJ8 Worldcab for the general design.....

Now that has me thinking. The '75 has a frame mount ...... oops not in my case, I used mine to help mount my Nerf bars. Mounted directly to the frame with a plate and small or even large receiver welded to it, I'm likin' the idea.

hedgehog have you built a rear bumper yet? i see alot of cj5s with pretty sick bumpers that do all this storage, put the tire out far enough for two cans to ride protected by the tire and above the tail lights and have the hi-lift jack vertical between the cans behind the tire.

Not yet, this thread is part of the bumper planning process. Building bumpers are great fun and I'm itching to get started, but won't leap until I'm sure of what I'm doing. At first I wanted cans next to the spare, unfortunately that will hide my tail lights. If I turn'em it still covers the lights. To move the cans to the area between the tire and tailgate will require some tube bending and chopping up my existing carrier. There are so many possibilities, I need to toss some of the ideas to help focus on what's reasonably possible. I am beginning to worry about the frame end supporting all the weight.

With the Jeep finally on the road I'm finding many small items to fine tune and one big one. My Jeep needs to be able to travel on the highway a lot. We simply don't have many secondary roads here to travel from place to place on. An interstate capable rig is a must. My Jeep has 4.10 gearing, if I'm going to get decent mileage this will need to be changed. Since I will need to change carriers to go with higher gears (or is than lower gears) I'm leaning toward 3.54's. I sure wish money was no object, but it will always be a problem for someone like me.

bah theres gotta be a way to clear ur lights and stick the cans in place, especially easy if you arent opposed to moving ur lights to the bumper. not that im suggesting that, i wouldnt do it to mine but its definitely an option.

Ohhhh don't believe moving them to the bumper hasn't been suggested. But now you've done it, I hadn't thought about putting them in the bumper I'm going to build. If I do away with the tapered ends, then go with a flat rectangular inset light unit.......

bingo, put them in the bumper and if you're worried about the weight just box the end of the frame and put a gusset on a vertical part of the bumper running to the top of the frame member, that will strengthen it enough until you can fully remove the body and box the whole frame.
