Nicely done.

Old post - but what alternator are you using?
105 amp GM # 19152464. It came with the serpentine belt kit that included a reverse-spin water pump, AC compressor, the alternator, P/S pump, idler, and all the bracketry.

I know this is an old post, but I'd love to see a wiring diagram of your set-up if you have one!

Thanks!

Thanks for sharing your wiring diagram!

I now have a question...how do you activate the solenoid when the Main Battery is 'dead' ?

My Nickel.95
There are Specific Kits for Dual Battery Use. RV's use them.
One item is a Battery Isolator, and a Battery Recharge Module.
The isolator is what it says, it keeps the Starting Battery full and only drains off the Auxiliary Battery.
The Module charges up the Starting Battery FIRST, and then will charge the Auxiliary Battery.

Hope this answers your question and leads you to the proper system.

A simple Battery disconnect between the two batteries is another option.

There are a few options. You can use an automatic system like "Jeep Soup" has mentioned/shown. That's a good one and there are also others (think marine or RV use). You could also wire the manual switch I showed in the diagram to the secondary battery instead of the main battery. In my case, I have never had the main battery so dead that it couldn't even activate the solenoid. Keep in mind that the solenoid only needs about 2 amps of current to activate, as opposed to hundreds of amps needed to start the engine. So it is rare that your main battery would be so dead you can't even use the switch to activate the solenoid. But I do have a short jumper cable in the Jeep. It's just a short (1 foot long) red cable with the clips on each end like any other jumper cable. If I need to actually jump start myself, I just connect the positives from each battery together using that short cable. The negatives are already both grounded anyway and the two batteries are sitting right next to each other in the dual battery tray. So just a short cable to connect to the two positives lets me jump start myself if the main battery is so dead the solenoid won't turn on with the switch.
