I have an 84 cj7 and a 72 dodge challenger and a 80 ford f150 pick up and a 02 tacoma, more to come
Question is that I have a seal leaking on the passenger side rear (stock axle 2 piece) and was wondering if there is a significance upgrade with a one piece or if replacing the seal will cure my problems ? not going to be off road much , mainly a cruiser that I may sell and do another . Any feed back is appreciated

sounds like a new seal would cure it.
If you don't beat it and the 2 piece axles have held up this long why spend the money on new axles.

Better keep your nuts tight then! :D

my nuts are so tight they turn blue lol :D
really just want to know if the original is any way unsafe and that a new seal will cure the problem , if I have to change the axle no matter what then I would go with a new one piece on both sides

Sorry...Inside forum joke.
Your hub is held onto the axle by a large nut with a torque value somewhere around 150ft/lbs, If this nut becomes loose you then rely on shallow splines to keep things rotating the same. Since you have to pull the hub to replace your seal you will see first hand what I'm talking about.
Are they dangerous? No not at all but if it spins on you it could be an inconvienence.
FYI..I split my hub axle apart when I upgraded just for kicks to see and it took an act of god on one side to seperate and the other not so much effort.

yea I took the hub off in between post and it was quite tight but finally popped off , thank god for air tools and pullers and bfh.s, still took quite a bit to get it off but all is good now, the seal didnt look real bad but was leaking, now I just need to get my new seal tomorrow I hope if its in stock ,found this why changing the brake shoes , pity is I have to take back the new shoes and try to get a better quality as even napa sells low grade if you dont watch what you buy ,the old shoes were crystallized as it goes but were thicker still than the ones I bought by quite a bit,,worst new shoes I have ever bought , maybe I am just getting picky in my old age but the new shoes were quite thin

another question , should there be a shim on the passenger side rear seal ?

Off the top of my head I think only one side is shimed.
