Has anyone coated the inside of the tub w/ bed liner?

I have see a few. I'm even thinking about getting mine coated. I think it's a good idea.

I have seen LOTS of them coated. In fact, when spring gets here I'm doing it to mine too. It looks great It's tough, and gives the best protection you can find.

when we get a new tub. we are going to line the inside black and the outside blue. we wont have to worry about scratching the paint.:D

The PO lined mine a few years ago, and apparently did a crappy prep job. But I just use a spray-on bedliner type stuff and go over it every once in a while and its just fine.

I use my CJ in the mud a LOT, and its great being able to just spray out the interior at the same time as the outside.

I prep'd and brushed mine using herculiner.
Steps:
1. scuff the inside
2. clean with denatured alcohol
3. mask off
4. brush on thin coat
5. when tacky brush on thick coat
6. repeat until thickness is what you want.
7. unmask while tacky
8. Allow proper drying time
DONE

It's all in the prep work if it'll stay on or not, i scuffed the paint till it was dull with
a course brown scrubby pad, cleaned it good, masked, brushed. Looked great.
BTW use herculiner in a well ventilated area!

I also used the Herculiner product. But, I masked everything off, went to Harbor Freight and bought a cheap air auto paint srayer and use it for the Herculiner. It worked great and I was able to reach those hard to get crevises with no problems. I would highly recommend it.

if you are using the diy stuff be sure you clean every little section real good with alcohol or (i use)paint thinner.but if i had the money i'd just get it rhino-lined inside and out.

The PO put herculiner on the inside of the tub on mine but I need to remove some of it and fix some rust holes. How would you suggest taking it off so that can be done? How flammable is it when it is dry? I don't want to burn the garage down or the CJ.

Try an angle grinder and a hard wire brush attachment. If you are at all lucky, the prep work will not have been done well, and it may peel off, so try slicing it and peeling first before going to the grinder.

I concur, a 4" angle grinder and a rope type wire brush. I'm not sure how much heat will affect it...

A torch can be used to soften it, then scrape it off, but it stinks, is messy and probably not healthy.

I used Herculiner as well in my 79 CJ5 . I actually rolled it. Looks good. It did fade a little from the FL sun. Herculiner does sell a product to bring back the shine.

How much Herc do I need for a CJ8 , the bed and cab area? Im thinking a gallon and if any leftover I can touch up some spots on the CJ5

Rollbar, that looks awesome, what was the cost as I am looking at my options for my CJ5 ?

Well I called the U-POL sales dept & got the dealer closest to me, called and got it for 120 bucks w/the gun. One dealer wanted to sell the gun separate & he was higher as well, 149 bucks. I figured by the time it gets shipped, I wait etc. I could drive 15min and get it for the next day. The 99 dollar deal is good but 15 bucks shipping etc. It just worked out for me. What I did was take some cleaner (lacquer thinner) & stick the guns pick up tube in the Qt can & spray, came out clean & I took one jug and cleaned it w/lacquer thinner to keep for a spare or if I wanted to spray something else. I did set the compressor @ 50psi and did a test shot of air, then set it so it wouldn't drop below 50 a full spray, worked well for me & then I had a small regulator on the gun (6 bucks), shot some and looked good so I left it. Changed bottles WITH OUT messing w/the regulator so I would get the same pattern.

Thank you Rollbar. Is that actual CARC paint, or is it another brand? I know the CARC OD green is really good at hiding lots of imperfections.
