Black Bear & Imogene Passes

Black Bear & Imogene Passes
I am kind of thinking a truck and trailer kind of thing.
I have driven to Colorado in my CJ5 . The first thing to get busted was my @$$.
This would be one of those rides that require a "everybody goes home in one piece" kind of attitude rather than a "lets see who can pee the farthest".
I am real sure that for us "flat landers" just being that high up in a jeep rather than an airplane would be thrilling enough.

well the only problem with drivin it that far is breakin something while i'm out there and not being able to get it fixed or get it home. if it were just drivin out there and back yeah i'd try it, (i done all of the work on it if i can't trust myself who can i trust?) but your talking about goin offroad and that means a high possibility of problems, big problems.
All right folks, LISTEN UP! it is 478 Mi for me to go Durango Co I have a trailer and more importantly my father in-law has a ranch called the Irma Gene with cabin and trailer about 1/2 hour from Purgatory and the little school house bar (ever hear of a shot-ski?) it will hold about 9 people with sleeping bags this could be a staging area. Snowmobiles are there as well. I want to go in May. Theres a parade and snow melt is great for waterfalls. I will go again or maybe just stay there and wait for you all. But if you dont want to spend $$ on a hotel, my dad in-law will let you chop wood.

I thought about that too.
CJ's in good shape now, but i'd sure cry if'n i had to rent a U-Haul to get us home.
Not the kind of "Defining moment" i'm looking for.
But heck, never know until i try.
I aint sceert. :grinjeep:

I couldn't agree more.
A couple years ago we went to a jeep jamborie in WV. like 380 miles one way. I wanted to tow the jeep as always, but the wife instested we drive it. After driving ot there, wheeln for two days and than driving back home the wife admitted she was wrong. How often does that happen.
And as far as flatlanders go the highest mountain around here is 3000 ft. so yea it will be like lookn out an airplane with no parachute.

That sounds pretty inviting!
Going to 12,840' in May though would not be possible unless it fails to snow this year, July -Aug. would be a safer bet if you asked me.

spent last weekend running the trails out of ouray. Never had the nerve to try black bear pass yet. The rest of the trails were beautiful. The trees were changing, BEAUTIFUL!!!!!
