What's wrong with the axle you have now?
'81 had the 5 bolt hub also..

Are you sure it's a 'wide-track' axle. IIRC, the WT didn't come out till 82.

81 came stock with 5 bolt hubs, if an 81 has a 6 bolt hub chances are it was an upgrade.

If it ain't bent or twisted-
You'll need to pull the cover and confirm it's a D/L.
Lots of folks have put in 'lunch-box' lockers and then say it's a Detroit Locker.
Here's what the real D/L looks like.
Detroit Locker 162SL60B - Detroit Locker by Eaton Performance for 27 Spline Dana 30 with 3.73 and Numerically Higher Gear Ratio - Quadratec
FL - Florida Dana 30 Detroit locker (soft locker) 3.93+
