Brake Line Size

Looks like I'll be able to get back to my CJ7 rebuild after the 1st of the year. I need to replace all of the brake lines. The line that runs across the rear axle seems to be smaller than the rest of the lines. What size tubing should I get as I need to replace the entire system. Would stainless steal wrapped brake hose work as well if placed in a protected area. I'm sure others have bent their own lines, what did you use? Thanks

PS: Power front Disc and Power rear drum is the plan by adding a vacuum booster.

Use a hard line.
Take the old brake line with you to the parts house to be sure the new fittings are correct.

I use 3/16” Poly-Armour PVF steel tube comes in a 25' roll for about $20 at AA
I purchased a flaring tool from eastwood years ago, at that time I paid around $AMC 150 with discounts.

I've made my own brakelines before from the split. I used ¼" tubing which was readily available in a variety of lengths. This was from necessity after splitting a rear line while wheeling.....I carry the flare tool, bender, cutter and extra flare nuts in my Jeep along with some extra ¼" tubing (which is also compatible with my clutch lines)

I have not made the long main brakeline...and I don't think I would try it given all the precision bends and frame placement....I would just purchase that. But to each his own.

Are you able to use the existing brake line nuts with this, if you double flare the ends?

I enjoy bending my own line. I find nothing hard about it especially if you save the old lines and use them as a guide. All the fittings worked as they should.
