ok i'm sick of this, please help so i can move on. This is my brake switch, found it with one wire hanging loose. i swear this wire has been hanging a long time and brakes worked. Whatever. It has power to one side until depressed like normal. WHERE does the other side go? All the diagrams I see show to the main switch on column but not exactly where. I,ve tried around but keep blowing fuses. I'm normally pretty good with wiring but i am about to BURN this jeep to the ground:mad: I hope i,m just trying too hard and its something simple

where does the wire provide power to?

Looking at a '78 wiring schematic, the loose wire after the brake light switch, goes into the turn signal switch steering column connector. If you have a wiring diagram for the '78 you should be able to see this. The diagram shows an orange wire at one end of that connector and that loose wire should go on the opposite end of the connector. The way I see it with that loose wire free you should not be blowing fuses unless it is grounded out.
The wiring diagram I have is from a Hayne's Jeep CJ manual.

Thats what the diagram shows but its not working. Everything else is finally working. I cant seem to find the problem so i am having an avionics buddy come help. It simply doesnt make since because the wiring is not as bad as i originally thought. The only place left to put the wire on the column switch has a WHITE wire on the opposite side... It looks to match the location but being they left the other side with no info on the diagram I cant match up. I cant imagine the PO cutting that wire inside the column but it wouldnt be the worst thing ive seen...

also there is no orange wire on that side of connector on this jeep

torxhead will you screenshot a pic of that diagram please. no diagra ive seen shows what your referring to

looking at the diagram. at the bottom of the steering column swic ther is a red with tracer labeled 65. on the other side of that switch on diagram it does not show where it goes. it has to send power somewhere. Please help

i figured it out . the red wireout of brake switch that goes to the white wire on the column connector is the problem. it shows 12v until you hook it up. that red wire goes into the fuse box. somehow it wont stay HOT when a load is put on it. I've got a safe and solid temporary fix by picking up a hot wire with an inline fuse holder until i can get the painless wiring kit. thanks to all who tried to help...:chug: :chug:
