Wiring OMIX-ADA Windshield Wiper Switch 19106.02

Has anyone else run into this problem?

I replaced the OEM wiper switch, which worked but had too much play, with an OMIX-ADA Windshield Wiper Switch 19106.02.

I couldn't for the life of me manage to put the pigtail on the back of the switch already mounted on the dash.

I figured some of the prongs must have bent due to my mishandling, so I removed the switch from the dash.

I then discovered that the new switch has an extra notch just off the tip of my index finger, as shown in the picture, which the OEM unit does not.



I cut that out with some side cutters, and now it fits like the OEM unit.

It's been a long time since I've been behind mine, so my memory of what it looks like is non-existant. However, I did not have a problem with my replacement switch.

What I do remember though, is that I have intermittent wipers, and there is a "sub-harness" that plugs into the car on one side and the switch on the other, and that extra bit holds the magic box to make them intermittent.

I wonder if there is a different plug configuration for the intermittent switch vs. the non-intermittent switch.

Since I'm home and the Jeep is in the garage and dry, I took a few minutes to solve this, because... curiosity.

This is the connector attached to the Jeep. It has the 4-wire pigtail going to the wipers and a couple of incoming that are likely power.

Sorry about the not-so-good pic. It appears that this will fit your switch without modification to the switch.

On my Jeep, with intermittent wipers, as I mentioned earlier, there is a sub-harness plugged into this which runs through the magic-box and then to another connector which attaches to the switch. That connector looks like this:

The back of my intermittent switch looks like this:

When I look closely, I don't see the extra notch yours has. So I'm going to make an educated (but still wild "donkey") guess as to what's up here. You'll also notice the triangle portion in the middle of the plugs are different.

Your red connector suggests that you once had intermittent wipers too. And now you don't because (I'm guessing from your picture) that someone cut out the magic box when it stopped working. (more on this in a minute.) I'm also guessing, from you picture- but it's not really clear, is that you may be able to eliminate the hacked harness- as it appears maybe the black plug, like mine, is back there in the back. In short, you may be able to eliminate the extra harness- by merely unplugging it- and plug your non-intermittent switch directly into the wiring loom.

FWIW, and I can't remember if I did a thread on this, I've opened the intermittent wiper magic box and discovered that the contacts on the relay, enclosed inside were the only problem. But I was unable to source a replacement relay and ended up buying a used intermittent box from J&W Auto Wreckers, who guaranteed it would work. (it did!) It's a Ford part.
