Brakes are Breaking my will

OK guys/gals, I've been slowly restoring my 77 CJ5 for over a year now. I've just finished a complete tear down frame repair.

While doing so I replace the entire brake system from mater cylinder, line to calipers and drums.

So when I go to drive it now after about 3 miles the brakes start seizing up. My big AMC 304 will move it still but when you press the clutch it nearly stops in its tracks. I thought it was my front calipers sticking so I replaced them... still the same thing is happening. (also tried bleeding the lines for air)

Any suggests? I'm so close to finishing it makes me sick to look at it in the garage.

You leave your home and the brakes are fine for a few miles. Then they start so seize up?
Do you know if it's the front or rear?

Did you replace the rear slave cylinders?

Carefully check the front rotors for heat after driving. If one is really hot, the caliper could be hanging up.

A quick way to check is jack up each wheel to see which is not rolling free. If you have a locker, you might need to jack up both wheels or unlock the hubs.

It also could be a wheel bearing going out.

Lift the wheels and see which one is causing the problem.

First, thanks to you all for such quick replies.

How would the proportioning valve cause this. (I believe you, I'm just curious). I ordered a new valve when I replaced everything else but it came with the wrong size holes and electrical plug. Where would you suggest I buy one?

I know it's both front brakes. Which also reaffirms my belief it's not the calipers.

I did replace the rear brake Cylinders as well.

I had had a similar problem with my pick up truck where the old and worn out flexible brake line will collapse on the inside not letting the fluid return. It even turned the rotor blue. I was not noticible from the outsice of the brake line either.

That was something I considered too but I have brand new flex lines.

I've got the exact same problem as scuba. It's been a couple years you still think the Proportioning valve is the answer?

Hmm, the original post was over 1.5 years ago and we never received a response.

I cannot tell you if the prop valve fixed the problem but that was my answer.

I say start a new thread so we don't get your issue confused with scubahunter.
Is it the front locking up? If so calipers are most likely issue.
Sure it's not the rear brakes?
