Hey guys,
First time poster here needs some help. I've got a 70 CJ5 with a 225 V6 with an SM420 Transmission . When I bought the jeep, the clutch and everything to do with the clutch (minus the stock fly wheel that was installed for the T-14 )did not come with the jeep. So my question is what clutch kit do I need for this set up? I'm assuming the fly wheel will need to be replaced also to make this conversion work. Any help is appreciated. Thank s Phil

Check this out:

The GM Muncie SM420 Transmission - Novak Conversions

Lots of good info there. While it doesnt give you a "easy" answer or part number for the kit you will need, you can go to summit or centerforce etc websites to search by pilot tip size, and shaft diameter / tooth count.

From what I can see you will need a 10.5" clutch with 1-1/8" 10 spline. and a pilot bushing in your current flywheel / flexplate for a 19/32nds shaft tip.

Read up on that page a little, and even call or e-mail them, they've always been very helpful to me.

You can also try giving this guy a call with 4 WD Hardware - Brian Stewart - 800-333-5535 he may be able to sort you out and get you what you need...

I've never used him personally, but he seems very helpful on another forum i frequent.

Thanks for the quick reply! I'll be making a phone call to Brian tomorrow.

Post when you get things figured out, I have the same setup on my CJ and the info could be useful.

While my clutch functions it is difficult to push and generally seems screwy.

The V-6 flywheel will work just fine.Basicly they came stock with GM 10.5"
clutch and pressure plate. If your 1970 has the one piece bellhousing youwill need to source a B.O.P. bellhousing. The earlier V-6 had a B.O.P. bellhousing with a adaptor behind it for the T-14 bolt pattern. This was a very common mod back in the day, pull the T-14 and bolt up a Muncie M-20. all GM ,no mystery. You will need the correct pilot shaft bushing.
