The thing about using the kevlar and carbon fiber is when I get through with it, it's strong enough to stand on. Fiberglass would be strong enough but I wanted to play with the kevlar and carbon fiber.
Also if you have ever owned an aluminum tool box you should know to line it or it turns everything in it black.

somehow I had the idea it was galvanized steel, another senior moment.
that reminds me I have a piece of carbon fiber in the corner I was going to play with and never decided on a project that was worthy of it.
well gang any thoughts on what small part of a cj should be stronger than steel and lighter than aluminum??

If you go to walmart, in their fabric dept, they have some clear vinyl that epoxy will not stick to. You can use it to make a flat sheet or to make curved parts.
I've been playing with it and I think I'm going to make a carbon fiber dash.

I've been playing with it and I think I'm going to make a carbon fiber dash.

I think I would like to try something in a vacuum bag. That process looks like it could be interesting and not as messy as hand lay up.
The idea of a carbon fiber windshield frame comes to mind but with all the embedded hardware and everything that would be a major project.

I've been thinking about the vacuum bagging but just haven't done it.
You are right about the windshield frame. But what if you covered a steel one with carbon fiber?

I think it would de-laminate over time and look like almost immediately.
you would have to use the original for a female and figure a way to accurately set the hinge mounting plates in the mold. It would be quite a trick.

How about a glove box door?
simple, easy to make a mold for and would look sexy if you could get the carbon fiber to be visible, relatively easy to vacuum bag, not that it needs to be strong enough to stand on or anything but it would be a good place to start. This will require more consideration.

Sounds like a good project.
Sense my glove box inside is already carbon fiber on my 74, the door would make it complete.
The kevlar glove box in this thread went into my 66.
I might try that too. (when the weather gets warmer)
