Hi Fellas,

I recently purchased a new to me engine from an 83 CJ7 that I am dropping in my 5. It came with a bunch of misc. parts the guy wanted to get rid of as a package. One item was the supposed original carb (it had a holley on it when I got it). The carb looks totally right for an 83, with the electronic feedback doohickeys, but it is stamped Weber not Carter. Can anyone shed a light on this? I can't find anything saying weber made any carbs for CJs out of the factory. Just kind of piqued my interest as I was listing items on eBay.

I'm going to call some one who knows the most about this. I'm also confused.

Weber never made carbs for CJs.

Somewhere in the back of my mind I remember of something about Weber making some carbs for Jeeps. I have no proof nor can I remember where i saw it. It may have been for early CJs or even Willys.

Could be from early but 2 brl? I called Elwood. He is hating life right now in Wisconsin (I ithink.)

Yeah I can imagine. Not very friendly weather for taking the top off of the Jeep, or even trying to get it back on. People complain about the heat here in the summer, but it was perfect yesterday, after a few cool and cloudy days

LOL. 83 here, went for a swim and a hot tub. Gosh how I hate this... :)

Sunny and 70ish

20 degrees and it snowed 4" last night here.

Hey guys! Yeah, the Navy has me in Wisconsin for a while, COVID-19 has us putting new recruits in quarantine here on an Army National Guard base for 2 weeks before they go to boot camp, it was -17°F when my alarm went off at 0515 this morning... It's currently a balmy 5°F at 1130.

The second picture definitely looks like a Carter BBD carburetor.

I found this listing on ebay, and they definitely look alike;

As for what the casting exactly says on the bowl, I'm not exactly sure. What I can say with quite a bit of certainty is that is not a Weber carb.

I'm with Caveman. Remember somewhere reading Carter sub'd out mfg of carbs. Or maybe the original design was Weber then went to Carter.
It's hell getting old. :D

Found this.....
Founded by William Carter in 1909, Carter built the St. Louis factory in 1915. William Carter only helmed the company for 13 years before American Car and Factory bought the company, and continued to run it as a standalone company until 1985. Carter models are still produced today by Weber and Edelbrock.

Just checking back in here, thanks for looking around! I have it posted on ebay right now (not the one you posted Elwood). Needing to make space and recoup funds now that my project is over and I am now fuel injected!
