Just bought my first Jeep CJ7 two days ago. Gotta brag a bit. It's a 1986 with one owner for 25 years and another of a little over 1 year. Documented 57,000 miles with the original window sticker.

Now to the issue. The carb needs attention. Would you just put a rebuild kit in the stock carb, or upgrade to a new one? I'm fairly mechanical...should I attempt it, or take it to a pro?

As far as carbs go this one is super easy to rebuild. I've rebuilt a dozen carbs and mine runs like a top now.

As much as I like my MC2150 carb, the fact that you have an original, collectors grade CJ, makes my vote to keep it original and rebuild.
