I've completely dismantled and cleaned my Carter YF (a?) 7039S carb, and am about to put it all back together. I've got the rebuild gasket kit for my model #. Looking at the gaskets that came off, I noticed a few holes were covered over the throttle body manifold, see the images below, I point to the ones that are covered by the gasket. Is this normal or was the wrong gasket used previously?

Thanks!

BTW I've taken a very detailed set of pictures about every nut, bolt, screw, etc. being taken out while taking it apart, I'll post them in another thread here soon.

I finally cracked open my rebuild kit and compared the gasket against the options in the kit. All of them covered the holes as shown in the pictures so ill assume it was normal.

Take a look at the bottom of the bowl that bolts to the base and see if there are holes in the bottom of the bowl that the holes mate up to, they may need to be sealed off by the gasket. The base may be for several different models that use the holes. Or are used to create a vacuum in the carb. :)

More than likely, all you need to do is match up the new gaskets with the old. You should be good. BTW, what symptoms were you having that made you decide to rebuild the carb? Just curious. Thanks

It started with bogging down on acceleration and then turned into very poor idle performance. I had an inkling that the jets might be clogged. During my rebuild I noticed that the PO didn't put the accelerator pump together correctly, so that may have been my accel. problem.

It's possible that my dist. cap & rotor are :dung:, and timing needs to be adjusted as well, but I figured I'd start here. The symptoms kind of overlap, but, one step at a time.

If you are going to replace them it would be a good time to do the Team Rush upgrade it helps alot.

I've got a 75 dist so I can't do the motorcraft cap, but I am interested in upgrading the coil. I made a dedicated ground post and that already helped my ignition a lot. I can't imagine how good she'll run after some new ignition parts. First things first gotta get the carb back on the jeep.
