I'm having issues with the Carter carb and the needles it comes with. It has the viton tipped needle (like they all do) and after being introduced to fuel, begins to swell up. it'll swell and stick inside the seat, so every time I start the engine I have to pull the seat from the fuel line, remove the needle and put everything back together. I can run the jeep around town, park it for about half an hour and then starts the cutoff symptoms. I live in the midwest, where ethanol fuel is inevitable. Where I live, I cannot get away from it. Fuel stations do not stock 89 anymore, and I'm not sure if I want to run 91.
A little over a year ago I rebuilt the carb, and kept all the old parts. I removed a viton tipped needle, and I replaced with one. I've swapped needles in seats, I've tried different methods trying to nail down if it's a parts issue, or maybe a seat issue. Both do it in each others seats. Has anybody else had issues like this, and if so, what was the resolution? I've tried finding full metal needles, and they seem to not exist. I've thought about taking a Dremel to the inside of the seat and taking the edge off, making the contact point in the needle a little more blunt. If anybody has any tips, please inform me.
